About the event
What is a STEM Hangout you may be asking? Well, to start, this particular STEM Hangout is just in time for you parents to get your home ready for Thanksgiving while your students are hanging out. Â The standard day off camp I offer is structured and planned accordingly. We rotate stations, play games, have experiments, yada yada yada. STEM Hangout is a deconstructed version of all of those great things and more. I'll be passing out STEM Passports with a dozen or so challenges on them. The students will then have open-ended time to complete the challenges to be eligible to win fun prizes and giveaways. It'll take focus, time management, and teamwork....and will be a lot of fun. Â
This is an amazing opportunity to really hone your Lego Mindstorms EV3 Programming skills or become a master 3D Modeler. Â Â The students will get as much out of this as the effort they put into it. Â They will not be short on assignments to complete. Â Â Plus, at lunch, we get to chill on the sofas and watch a fun movie. Â
We will still have team activities and teachers to assist and direct as needed but the majority of the time the students are on their own to accomplish the STEM challenges under supervision and guidance. Â NO, they will not be allowed to sit around and play on their phones all day. Â It will all be project-based learning, educational, and fun challenges that will keep them moving, thinking, and engaging. Â 2nd - 8th Graders - Limit 16 Students
Please share this and invite a friend to camp. Â This is a really fun and non-intimidating way to try out our camps if you've been thinking about it for awhile. Â Please contact me with any questions. Â
PARENT VOLUNTEER All classes this week have the option of hosting a parent volunteer. Â One parent per class will be allowed on a first come basis and their student may attend at no cost. Â Having a parent volunteer is critical to the success of these classes so I encourage you to attend and have fun with all the students and learn along with them. Â No experience with the content is necessary. Â Please contact me if interested. Â Thank you. Â Dustin McEntarfer
